I was thinking about places and memories lately, and I thought I'd start a little meme. What are your top 10 places ever? They don't have to exist anymore, nor do they have to be vacation places. I'd love to see what everyone's are (just post in your LJ if you want to play)

1. Home: in whatever incarnation. Home for me has always been too small and crowded (since childhood) and only seen by my close friends who don't care about such things, but I'm so happy at home. My "happy place" when I need to meditate or visualize is the view from my teenage home's bed, facing two windows. Usually the visualization is accompanied by the smell of breakfast cooking. Mmmm, bacon...

(and now in no order)

2. My former acupuncturist's office: the sight of much relaxation and pampering. I miss her.

3. Friends' homes: you know who you are ;P

4. Tattered Cover, Denver: Best. Bookstore. Ever.

5. Planet Comics, Oklahoma City: Man, I miss that place. Fine comic selection, a nice clerk who I always chatted with, and no slime factor. Plus it was across the street from my apartment complex. That rocked.

6. Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, near Lawton, OK. My grandma grew up near there, and since childhood it has been a special place of wonder for me. And
buffaloes,
lots of buffaloes. Some who sit down on the road and don't move for awhile. Which makes a Sunday drive extra fun.

7. My mother-in-law's living room. A very peaceful place.

8. The Lawton High Drama room: The sight of my high school life, for the most part. Many happy memories and so much laughter.

9. Children's Center for the Arts, Oklahoma City University: The CCA, now sadly starkly painted office space. This is the one that hurts the most. It was the Children's theater headquarters, where my work/study job was, where I met Snorri, where I lived in college, since my acting troupe rehearsed and performed there, and most other play rehearsal happened there. It had been a little church, and inside it was painted with fun murals, butterflies on the windows, kid friendly cushiony furniture. We all loved it there - it was a happy, happy place. Snorri and I were going to get married there, but when our wonderful professor, who was the heart of the program, died, the university almost immediately kicked out the Children's Theater. It was so sad.

10.Historic Ft. Sill, OK: My hometown is Lawton/Ft. Sill, and my home was about a mile from Gate 1. My grandpa grew up on the post. he remembers seeing the camp fires and hearing the drums from the teepee of the great scout, I-See-O, from his family's quarters, as well as seeing Geronimo around the base. Now his grave is right across from Geronimo's in the Old Post Cemetery. Grandpa was stationed there throughout his army and civil service career, so my family pretty much was based at Ft. Sill. As a kid and teen, we took lots of leisurely drives through the historic post, and I had many friends whose dads' were stationed there. One place, Medicine Bluffs, is a place of magic for me.
