So we opened Christmas presents tonight and I finally freed the Buffy season 5 dvd's from their cheery paper bondage. I've known they were there for a week, and thank goodness I've been busy and thus not dwelling on their taunting closeness. And then cos I just can't wait for surprises, I had Snorri open his birthday present two weeks early. What can I say? I'm just that kind of gal. So he lurves his pan and knife.

So for this weekend I have Buffy DVD's, Pirates commentary and drabble to write for [livejournal.com profile] circe_tigana's challenge, final edit of Yuletide story, Lord of the Rings geekiness, and several plot bunnies I want to think about. Woo hoo!

So (again - wow I use "So" a lot), about that LotR fandom. I know there are good fanfic archives out there that won't make me gasp in horror at the sacrilege of it all. Point me? Any particularly good stories (gen preferably as I dip my toes into new waters - although if there's a non-graphic Frodo/Sam, I wouldn't be averse to trying it)?

And I wanna make some new icons too.

Squee! I feel some serious geek girl times a coming!

They Say of the Elves.

Yes, it's Legolas/Gimli, but it's really more pre-pre-slash than anything else, and the writing style is simply fantastic. ^_^ It's what one-shot fics should be.

Due to lack of time I haven't read many LotR fan fics (I desperately need a time-turner!), but when I have time I'm going to start in this archive: http://www.henneth-annun.net/
You can search fics of a certain era, genre, or character there, which is very nice.

Second the Henneth-Annun rec. It's pretty stringently juried, which means of course it's controversial and political, but which also means that it's pretty much free of eye-sporking badfic.

You might also check the Mithril Award winners and finalists (http://www.viragene.com/tolkien). Controversial again, but in itself a really good collection of stories in various categories (Some are graphic, but there are usually warnings.)

Bahaha one year I had a friend open her birthday present ten months early.
