Nov. 28th, 2003 08:54 pmI occaisionally drift over to this cool community:
urban_decay. I've always been fascinated by old things, old houses - growing up in a small N.C. town full of old homes, some moldering, some not - I was always looking through trees on rides through the country side looking for old houses set back in the trees. I've always wanted to go inside an old farm house or a mansion falling to ruin, but I never have. Luckily there are people who have, and they will post the pictures. This site is amazing - it is run by a British man who explores abandoned hospitals, sanitariums, and the like. Check it out - it is very cool.
You are evil
Simon's site with his tours is just fascinating! I cannot tear myself away. And the community is wonderful. I've always wanted to do what these people have done. There's an old antebelllum mansion on route 17 just outside of Fredericksburg that I have always wanted to explore, but never have. May have to do just that now.

Mom would sometimes drive by it for me. It was called Thrice Welcome, and it was huge. When I was a teenager I wrote a poem about it that won a competition. It definitely had a lasting impression.
