I planned to see the new Harry Potter tomorrow afternoon. I still plan to see it then! But I couldn't wait until then, so I met
adjudicated and her kiddos at the theater right after work.
I'm so happy with this film. So, so, so happy.
It was intense. I mean, seriously. I gasped a few times. The Malfoys... Oh, man, the Malfoys. When Lucius relinquishes his wand, I got chills. Voldemort was actually menacing instead of briefly seen and easily defeated. Well done, Ralph Fiennes. No one else could play Voldie the way he does.
I loved the relationship exploration between the Trio. Loved the very beginning with all three facing their futures. LOVED the dance to Nick Cave. You guys, NICK CAVE! In a Harry Potter movie!!! My Hermione love is back with a vengeance. She kicks ass and takes names. Which is why when Hermione is being tortured by Bellatrix, and Harry and Ron are in the basement hearing her screams... I got chills. It was a harrowing scene.
I loathed seeing Umbridge again. HATE HER. But I loathed in a good way!
So much of the movie looked exactly as I pictured it. Every time the Deathly Hallows symbol popped up in a scene, I squeed quietly.
The telling of the Deathly Hallows with that cool shadow puppet animation? AWESOME
Xenophilius Lovegood - Almost exactly how I pictured him
The glimpses of Gellert... Swoontastic. I wish there had been more of his story; hopefully he'll be included in flashbacks in the last movie. When Hermione flips through Rita's tell-all biography, the picture of Albus and Gellert comes up with the caption "Dumbledore's BEST friend". So salacious!
Another thing I really loved was the echoing of the beginnings of the story - Harry stopping to look in the cabinet under the stairs before leaving Privet Drive, Hagrid and the motorcycle, Hermione's magical fire in the jar.
I teared up when Dobby died and gasped in shock when Hedwig is killed, just like when I read the book.
I am delighted. And I am looking forward to seeing it again tomorrow.
