I bid farewell to my darling children this afternoon for spring break. Ahhhhhh.... I have one more day of work and then bliss.

Adding to the list of things I want but can not have, I have decided I want an unabridged audio book of the Lord of the Rings that is not read by Rob Inglis. ARG. I didn't love his rendering of the voices in The Hobbit, but I thought I'd give the
LotR a try. I just hate how he interpets the characters, the songs, everything. Bleh.

Here's my fantasy purchase: an unabridged reading of LotR with a narrator and as many of the movie actors as possible doing the character voices. That would work for me, even though in some cases they'd be interpreting almost entirely different characters. That would be cool.

Currently I'm downloading the PoA trailer. Squee! I am ready to feel the HP lurve again. Ooh, Wow. This looks like it's going to be fabulous.
Hee, I liked the little Hermione/Ron bit. Ok, it's going to be canon, I won't fight it ;)
Was that Minerva's office? More Minerva=happy Vivien
Harry casting "Expecto patronum" at the end? Shivers...
And Hermione clocking Draco? YES! Hurray!

You want the BBC Dramatization then, it has only one actor from the movie (Ian Holm as Frodo) but its very well done and as close to your ideal as I think is available. Until the movie, I would say it was the definitive non-paper version of LoTR. Its abridged, but not too much, its 13 CDs worth... Amazon has it and BBC has a collectors edition with an additional CD for about twice Amazon's price.

A former roommate had the cassette version (I forget how many cassettes...) its a fabulous interpretation.

You know what's sad? I have it and I don't love it. Aragorn's voice is just so awful and distracting that I can barely listen to it, and Ian Holm is a bit much as just a voice. And it has very Dr. Who-like sound effects to me. I just want plain old reading of the book.

But thanks for the recommendation anyway :)
