I remember my American teenage relations coming to visit us in 1977 when I was a five-year-old living in a suburb of London by the Thames. One of them had a Star Wars T-shirt and he related to me the adventures of all the characters in this already-legendary universe. I didn't understand any of it and was absolutely mesmerised. I often look back on this with amusement as a sort of foreign-missionary-converting-the-ignorant-native moment. Of course I saw it soon afterwards and was immediately a fanatic, along with all the other children in our cul-de-sac.
It only occurred to me years later that the film had mostly been shot in a studio ten miles from where I was living. Haha.
