RPS... Never really liked the idea of it. it kind of squicked me because, hello - real people, not characters! But even as I waded gently into the Seas of Slash with [livejournal.com profile] lanning's wonderful Clark/lex series, I have now descended into the special hell that is Billy/Dom. Damn, it though, it's practically canon! Mostly I was broken by this excellent story written by [Bad username or site: circe tigana @ livejournal.com],[livejournal.com profile] fitofpique, and [livejournal.com profile] anniesj. It's called Brinkmanship and it's... gah. Just right.

The flames burn so prettily....

On a less pervy note, I now have Dreamweaver installed on my computer and I actually started building my boring professional online portfolio for school. I haven't done much with it, but dude, I'm using Dreamweaver!

I'm also attempting to apply design principles to my personal site I started last summer. You know, so that it doesn't suck entirely ;) So far, so good, but I envision some things I don't know how to do yet. This is very exciting. the idea of web design has been one I flirted with, but I never thought it would be a possible thing for me to do. Maybe if the economy gets better, I could finagle my way into a position that includes design. I would like that.

This is an incredibly wanky way of putting it, but the way I always see RPS? I'm no more writing about, say, Elijah Wood, even if a character happens to have his name and look like him, than I am when I write about Frodo. I don't know the real Elijah Wood, but I have a groovy idea for a story involving a character who vaguely resembles my perception of him. A friend of mine suggested that the acronym FIBRP, "Fiction Inspired By Real People", might be more accurate than RPS, which suggests some kind of definitive knowledge. I think "fibrip" is more fun to say, but it's unlikely to catch on at this point, sadly. *grin*

Cate Blanchett is currently working on a movie called "The Aviator", in which she plays Katharine Hepburn. The way Scorsese told her to look at it is "You're not playing Katharine Hepburn. You're playing a character who happens to be named Katharine Hepburn." That's the way I've always kinda looked at RPS.

Interestingly, I know, via a mutual friend, of someone who has no problem with and actively writes LotRPS, but will fight against LotRFPS for England -- the way she sees it, the cast are just a bunch of dumb, egotistical actors, but Tolkien's words are sacrosanct.

*shrug* Just some random thoughts from someone firmly planted in the pro-LotRPS camp. *grin*
