Halloween Costume Countdown - Day 5
Oct. 5th, 2011 07:24 pmMy angel dress still fit me the next Halloween. My mom, being resourceful and broke, dyed it black in the tub. Well, it was sort of black. It was really more a dark gray. But once we slapped a witch’s hat on my head, it was good enough for the school carnival.
Ah, the school carnival... see, back in my day, Halloween wasn’t an evil, Satanic holiday. It was a community event! Schools had carnivals and costume contests and spooky houses where you’d touch the peeled grapes (EYEBALLLLLLLLS). Even the churches in my little Southern town had Halloween carnivals and not harvest festivals. I guess the Devil was working overtime back then. *wry*
I’ve been a witch many times for Halloween. It’s an easy and fun costume, and I always incorporate plenty of tulle. And spiders. Et voila. This is me with one of my preschoolers back in... 1997? Ish?
