Aug. 6th, 2009 08:23 pmI was fourteen when Sixteen Candles came out. My friends and I dressed up and went, because it was an Event. It was a movie that had music we liked and people who were more like us than in any of the other movies we watched. The rest of John Hughes' movies remained Events as long as I was in high school.
Looking back, Sixteen Candles, as problematic as parts of it are, still stands up as quality entertainment. I giggle and roll my eyes along with Sam, I laugh at and with Ted, and I still love the music. Breakfast Club annoyed me even back then, but Pretty in Pink made up for it (except for the ending, Andie/Duckie OTP!!!). And Ferris Beuller's Day Off? Wins everything ever.
Thank you, John Hughes. You made films I still treasure.

Maybe for the best that he hadn't.
Very sorry to see him go, though.
