Jul. 16th, 2009 12:38 amYou guys? You guys??? OH. MY. GOD.
I loved it. I mean, drop dead, head over heels, favorite movie in the series love.
Quick list of gushing:
So yes. Two enthusiastic, ecstatic thumbs up. I'm going to see it again. And probably again.
OH! I keep forgetting to post this, and in celebration, I have proof that Dark forces are at work in Colorado Springs.
This building has been vacant for a few years, and I know that it's a front, a fake building for Dark wizard gatherings!!! It is, however, not Unplottable, because I can find it juuuust fine.
Yes, I know I am just a little crazy.

Quick list of gushing:
- This was the first time the adult actors got to really shine. OMFG, Jim Broadbent? WOW. Alan Rickman has always been good as Severus, but it's been as the skeery teacher from the Harry-student POV. In this film, you got to see him as the conflicted character he is. Michael Gambon owns Dumbledore. He shows both the manipulative bastard and the sympathetic father figure/mentor (and I believe Dumbledore is both).
- Um. Okay. I was bitter about no Christian Coulson. But both the boy and the teen version of Tom Riddle gave me chills of the best kind. Especially the teen version - all silky menace. Yeah, okay, I'm sold. I was, however, a little surprised by the whole "Oh, hey kids, Voldemort used to be a student named Tom Riddle! By the way."
Milliways folks might get my amusement. No hiding from other canon/movie-verse characters for Tom! - Now, I've appreciated Draco, but I've never been overwhelmed by Tom Felton's acting. Sometime between the last movie and this movie, that kid learned how to act. He did a splendid job with showing a (finally) three dimensional antagonist, and I like Draco all the more because of it.
- The Unbreakable Vow scene gave me chills.
- Ron stole many scenes. I am fine with this.
- Heh, Cormac. Skeevy git. Blaise was cast well, as well.
- The beginning gave me chills, and the end seemed right to me.
- I loved the look of the film. The colors - or lack of them - worked quite well for me.
- I liked the tenor of this movie much better than Order of the Phoenix, which is grim in an uncomfortable way. This movie gives us a bit of respite, and it's a good thing.

Date: 2009-07-16 03:32 pm (UTC)Things I loved:
- The fact that this was a school movie, and not just a movie with a school.
- The grownups.
- DUMBLEDORE IS A DICK!
- The Meta. (Why is it always you three?)
- And I'm still boggling at the level of violence. I mean...Katie Bell alone was just....I was speechless.

Date: 2009-07-16 03:55 pm (UTC)The grownups, though. Yeah. You know, I was thinking about how I'd read through the books, tra-la-la, fun kids' series, and then I got to Goblet of Fire and Snape revealed as a double agent, and I said "WHOA. There is a lot more to this world than I thought." It was so nice to see Snape as something more than Menacing Teacher.
It was a school movie. Which again, nice respite. I didn't mind the Won Won and the lurve bits because they fit in so very well with the school context. Oh, and kudos to Bonnie Wright who actually turned Ginny into a real girl. I was impressed; I hadn't liked Ginny for a lot of reasons until now.
I've read a few HP fan reactions who are lukewarm about the movie, so I think the strategy of not reading the book right before was a good idea for me.
I am still laughing because Tom Riddle is SO outed. There won't be any hiding behind an unfamiliar face and name for him at Mways! *SNICKERS*
