I watched From Hell yesterday, which I like quite a bit - and not just cos my movie boyfriend is in it. It's a shame it didn't get as good reviews as it should've. Today is The Ninth Gate, which I haven't seen. So now heading to new Johnny territory. Geez, what a fangirl.

The Ninth Gate is actually a book called The Club Dumas by Arturo Perez-Reverte. He also wrote The Flanders Panel. If you like The Name of the Rose by Eco, you'll like Reverte.

I actually thought of you and Golem while watching it - room getting trashed looking for special book scenes ;) The book would be fabulous I'm sure, as the movie script was flawed but had interesting things happening here and there. At least my movie boyfriend did a nice job with the role. And spoke un peu of French which was... wow. :P

I guessed it must have been ;) Just with the tone of the two being similar. I'm up to chapter 10 and so enjoying it - poor Hermione. So much to overcome. We really mess that poor girl up as authors, don't we :P Tragic pasts, frightening futures - thank goodness more female characters have come on the scene to take more of the damage.

Yes, I know that Hermione really gets abused. I plead justification given her ruthlessness in OotP. Sooner or later those of us with that ruthless streak get burned. In the Golem universe that's what happened to her during the war.

She's only told part of the story. She hasn't faced the fact that she pushed to go on that last expedition which resulted in Ron's and her capture. She pushed him to get closer to the Death Eaters, she could have escaped, but didn't. All sorts of things that she could have done, but was driven not to do.

What I really hope Rowling will do is show how Hermione can ber ruthless, get burned, and deal with the consquences, but still stay strong, if tempered.
