Mar. 18th, 2008 07:19 pmI was sad to hear about Arthur C. Clarke. He was a genius and made a lasting impact on not just scifi culture, but culture as a whole.
I'm really sad to hear about the sudden death of Anthony Minghella, who directed The English Patient, Cold Mountain, and one of my very favorite movies, Truly, Madly, Deeply. He was a fine director, and I loved his works. He'll be missed.
Put Truly, Madly, Deeply on your Netflix queue. It's heart-breaking, but inspiring, all at once. Plus it features Alan Rickman playing cello, and a freaking brilliant performance by Juliet Stevenson.

I love that movie, and I think I've pretty much adored everything Minghella directed (at least the ones I've seen). He had a magical touch with everything: such an ability to imbue it all with such a level of emotion. And so soft-spoken and kind, too.
