Seen on [livejournal.com profile] mctabby's:

Book you keep meaning to read that always gets bumped to second place by new purchases:

There are many books I've not yet read that I need to. All of Jane Austen, Little Women, many of the classics. One day, perhaps.

Book you put down halfway through and never got back to:

Twice I have tried really hard to read Stranger in a Strange Land, Heinlein. I can't get more than a few chapters. Just don't get it.

Book you love and can never convince anyone else to read:
Probably my strong-southern-women-in-nostalgic-past favorite novels. I rec Divine Secrets to everyone but I am often met with lukewarm interest ;)

Book you'll never read no matter how many people tell you you should:

I really doubt I will ever read Moby Dick. It's just not going to happen.

Children's book that no-one else remembers except you:

The Mouse and His Child by Russell Hoban. I read it in 3rd grade and then made my mom read it to me twice. We both fell in love with it.

Children's book everyone seems to have read that you've never read / heard of:

I never read any of the Ramona the Spy books, or in fact ,any of the Beverly Cleary ouvre. Not sure why, just didn't get around to it.

Terrific book, terrible movie: Heh. I could write a few here. I think the most desparate trashing of a really fun book was Queen of the Damned. The novel is cool - probably the best Anne Rice besides Witching Hour (see strong-southern-women-in-nostalgic-setting fixation). The movie? Brrrr. But at least Stuart Townsend was pretty to look at.

Book you loved on first reading which on subsequent readings wow, not so much:

Hmmm. I'm not sure. Maybe the STNG novels I lurved back in the day.

Most Overrated / Overhyped Book or Author, in your opinion:

Catcher in the Rye. Read it, and I'm sure it is a touchstone for many. It just was annoying for me.

Most Underrated / Misunderstood Book or Author, in your opinion:
Chelsea Quinn Yarbro rocks and is insanely smart, and if she's not the most brilliant writer ever, she is definitley underappreciated.

Can I just point out here that January will be over tomorrow! hurrah! January is the LONGEST MONTH EVER, or at least it is to me. I am happy to see it end.
