Apr. 2nd, 2005 01:29 pmI am not a Catholic, and I disagree with many of the things Pope John Paul II strove for, but I respected the man and admired him a great deal. He was the only Pope I really knew, and coming from a kinda sorta Catholic family, I kept up with him a bit.
I liked that he was willing to stand up for Jews, as he did in Poland in WW2. I liked that he was charasmatic and wanted to actually go to the people who believed in him. He had a long, purposeful life, and he died peacefully with little interference.
We lit a candle for him here. He's home now.
