Nov. 28th, 2004 04:51 pmWhat a brilliant weekend! I've actually gotten some much needed homework done, and I also had lots of time to write and have fun. Yesterday I met
silveraspen at Hapa sushi (my favorite sushi place ever) for a late lunch and then we went to see Finding Neverland, which is, simply put, one of the finest, most gentle movies I've had the pleasure of watching. The performances were brilliant. Johnny Depp remains one of my all time favorite actors - his roles always have a sense of vulnerability and gentleness that push every button I own. This role was no exception. I loved the character he portrayed - the whimsy, the need for escape due to deep pain, the creation of a family not by blood but by choice. All of those themes resonated for me in special ways. The children portraying the Davies boys were delightful. Kate Winslet was amazing, as well.
The melding of reality to the fantasy of Barrie's world was moving - I understood that shifting so well. The opening night of the play was also highly moving. The London orphans? Special to me, for reasons in RPG ;)
The end got to me. There were many tears.
And yes, I believe in fairies. Peter Pan is the first movie I remember going to see in a theater. That part is one of the reasons.
Oh, and the coolest part was as I dashed to the ladies room before the movie, I ran into
anamazonruns and Mr. Anamazonruns, who'd just gotten back from vacation. We hadn't seen either of them for weeks, so it was way cool. They'd just seen a different movie, so they bought more tickets and joined us!
We all cried. It was brilliant.
It's snowing, and the commute tomorrow will suck. I so don't want to go to work. I don't want to go to class, but there are only three more weeks in the semester. It was a lovely break, but why am I still so tired?
