Midsummer Slacking
Jun. 21st, 2004 06:40 pmWe had a substitute in class tonight. My 4:30 to 9:30 class? Done. and it's not even 6:30 yet. Woo hoo! Of course, I should be planning what the bloody hell I'm going to be filming for my five minute movie. Actually, I have an idea, I just need to storyboard it. And then figure out how to work my DV camera! No, I'm actually figuring that out okay.
A few holiday notices:
Happy Father's Day a day late, James!
Happy Midsummer's Day!
Fairies dance as the sunset glows,
Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose...
I remember this painting and poem from Cricket magazine back when I was little. Did anyone else read Cricket? I loved that magazine so much. I still have a few of my old issues.
Midsummer has always been a magical day for me, either the day, or the concept. Snorri and I met during the play Midsummer Night's Dream (I was Puck, he was Peter Quince) so that's part of it. it's my very favorite pagan holiday ;)
As a teen, my friends and I would always be outside on the midsummer evening, listening to the crickets and locusts buzz buzz buzz and watching the fireflies twinkle in the dark summer heat. That is one sense memory of my home state that I hold onto. There is nothing as wild in a comforting way as an Oklahoma summer night with the ever present threat of severe weather and wind (because it does in fact come "sweepin' down the plain")and family history built up into a thick tapestry over the generations. Hmmm, I need to buy my ticket home for the end of July.
I miss fireflies in Colorado. And wind. I do not miss 100 degree temperatures. I am wearing a sweater today and the high was 56. But it's nice to visit home. For a week or so.

Date: 2004-06-22 01:51 pm (UTC)I'll have to dig out some of my copies and we'll reminisce. I remember the artwork more than anything - those magazines were so beautiful.
