Saw Two Towers last night. Here is my praise/rant in the ever confusing mix of emotions these movies provide me.
Well, let me start by saying that I absolutely loved the first third of Two Towers. Loved it. Clapped excitedly and did a little happy chair dance at several points. When Merry starts talking about the Old Forest, I thought to myself "This movie is going to make me so happy. Hurray!"

Alas, then my purist heart was dashed upon the rocks of the Forbidden Pool. The extra added Arwen - not a problem, really. The whole Aragorn in the river thing, well, that was...kinda not needed in any way shape or form. The endless minutes to the Battle of Helm's Deep...editing, please. The elves showing up - not accurate, but cool. But then.... then I really got pissed off.
I really and heartily disliked the same as Susan did the character change of Faramir. The whole point of Faramir was that he wasn't Boromir. It made me very sad.
And the whole Ent moot travesty also made me quite grumpy. Treebeard came off as a doddering tree guy instead of a powerful, ancient being. In my humble opininion, of course. If Merry and Pippin are deprived of Ent draughts, I will be even pissier :P

BUT, in the paradox that is my feeling toward this movie (and why should it get under my skin so damn much? I should just sit back and enjoy it, but wah, it just has so much meaning for me, I can't do it), I loved so many things about it.

Gollum was wonderful. And yes, he was strangely cute at times, but I think that is what makes his fate so sad. After all he was hobbit-ish creature once.

The Ents looked right. The flooding of Orthanc really worked.

Loved the Arwen by the tomb of Aragorn. Oh, and no, once she chooses to be mortal, she can't go to the Havens. She dies in the now deserted Lothlorien.

Didn't mind Elrond's attitude towards the A/A relationship. Afterall, she is his only daughter, and after what happened to her mother, he would want her to be in the safest possible place.

Loved Eowyn. A lot.

The oliphaunt!!!!!

Did I mention I loved Gollum?

Gandalf was simply magnificent.

Legolas is still prettiest ;)

My favorite point though had to be when Sam says in Osgiliath that "This isn't right. We aren't supposed to be here." I burst out a chuckle before I could help it, which I'm sure the people around me appreciated. Susan and I then whisper laughed in mild hysteria, cos dude - Sam was so right!

Sigh.....I am such a freakin' geek. But at least I'm not alone.

All packed, presents wrapped, laundry done...phew. Dear gods, now just the 11 hour drve to look forward to. Yeesh.
