It wasn't a good movie, but I enjoyed it for the fluffy summer flick I felt it was. Reasons:
1) I knew it wasn't going to be great going in - therefore low expectations. Plus it was free thanks to
silveraspen's movie gift certificates. That was a help. But I would have paid matinee price for it, even with the quality of the flick.
2)I like Hugh Jackman. He acts well and he's nice to look at.
3)The settings were great, and I liked the music.
4) I liked the vampires - Dracula worked for me, and I loved the Brides. I really liked the morphing effects with them.
5)Frankenstein working with Dracula is a cool idea. Loved Frankenstein's monster.
6)It was very 1930's movie serial - and that's an okay thing to be, for me.
But here's the reason why I really enjoyed it - and why I'd even watch it again (well, parts of it, anyway):
David Wenham. I loved Karl. And he spoke Latin, fluently, which makes my heart flutter. He was a great sidekick - "Oh werewolves? You'll need silver bullets then" and tosses them to VH - cracked me up. And the line "Well they didn't have me around 400 years ago, did they?" Killed me.
Okay, so Kate Beckinsale sucked the energy out of every scene she was in. And the plot - while there was an attempt at one - was not the best, but there were some good ideas. The effects were so uneven - and thanks to Aspen who likes to watch the credits - we saw why: ILM, Weta, and about 5 other effects studios were listed. So that's why - too many cooks in the kitchen. Hey, It was better than League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which truly sucked ass.
CRIKEY! David Wenham was in the Crocodile Hunter movie.
