So I finally managed to watch the Bakshi version of LotR. Dios mio. Wow, was that some poor animation, or what? I mean, so bad.
einini - I saw your post about the same movie, esp. the remark regarding the Balrog. I laughed out loud when I saw it. It looked like Mothman. Only less scary.
What really amused me is that someone in the writing of the script got some stuff right - some important stuff like Merry and Pippin knowing about the Ring and watching Frodo, for example. And there was a lot of dialog right from the book, which was a good thing. But then we get Seleborn and Minus Tirith. And dear gods, the hobbits got to wear pants, the dwarves got to wear pants, the elves got to wear pants... why, oh why, couldn't the men wear pants? I'm glad I didn't see this as a child - it would have scarred me for life. Plus it was so bloody long... with weird stuff that had nothing to do with the story like that freakish dance of the horses when the Ringwraith faces off with Frodo before the Ford of Rivendell. Yeesh! But I have now had the experience. I will never watch it again ;)
Yes, I do have more appreciation for Peter Jackson now. But I'm still grumpy about Two Towers. :P I will state that after watching the Bakshi version, I popped in FotR and soothed my damaged brain with that version of events.
I also watched "Spirited Away" today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hmm, I wonder if there is any fic out there about grown up Chihiro and Haku. No, I'm not going to go look for it. I really am not...
