Dec. 15th, 2003 08:34 pmSo I had a loverly time last night at
debellatrix's home watching The Two Towers extended edition. Well most of it anyway - it got late and it was a school night. I have to say that I (shock, gasp) enjoyed it (mostly) for the first time. Seeing the extra footage made it so very much better. Especially with Faramir (although it was still wrong wrong wrong) - the flashback broke my heart and made the AUness of the whole thing so much more palatable. So I'm going to watch selected scenes from Fellowship tonight, read favorite sections of the book, and get ready for Thursday night. Cos damn Peter Jackson's black heart, I am excited yet again for the next part of the Trilogy. He better not piss me off or I might lose it.
I have decided to try to relax on most plot issues, cos, dude, it's not going to be my book version anyway. But I have two things that will piss me the fuck off: Eowyn better be heroic and Merry better be right there with her. That is my very favorite part of the entire freaking series, and if P.J. can just please god please get that part right, I will not wish for his slow painful death.
I have a feeling the other part I most want (Sam's heroism) will not be skewed, since that's the WHOLE POINT. And really, it is.
So I must ask you Friends who are going to see the movie before Thursday for detailed spoilers. Cut tag it in your LJ and lay it all out. Tell me everything about everything so I don't get slapped upside the head with disappointment at the theater.
Oh well, if nothing else it will be pretty to watch.

Date: 2003-12-15 10:31 pm (UTC)And as for Sam's heroism, I don't think that's anything to worry about at ALL. Considering that two of the most poignant moments in the previous two films (Sam running after Frodo's boat in FotR and his "it's like in the great stories" speech in TTT, both of which -- along with Boromir's death -- STILL bring me to tears) have been his, I don't think shortchanging him will be an issue. *grin*

Date: 2003-12-16 09:57 am (UTC)Everyone has also said that Sam is definitely the hero, has the most intense emotional moment of the movie, and that Sean Astin kicked ASS.
However:
Saruman's death is on the cutting room floor. Doesn't appear at all. It's a seven minute scene that will be in the DVD, but didn't get into the theatre version.
There is no scouring of the shire or houses of healing. Those chapters were not even filmed.
Isildur's sword is reforged by Elrond and given to Aragorn. Blargh. Plus of course there is lots of Arwyn crap that shouldn't be there.
Whether Frodo caved at the end and how Gollum plays his part is changed to be ambiguous. BLARGH!!

Date: 2003-12-16 06:50 pm (UTC)NOOOOOOO!!!!! :) See, these are the things I need to know!
I actually had heard about the others, except for no Houses of Healing. Man, that sucks - I love that part. Oh well.
See, I'm accepting the defeat of my hopes already so by Thurs. I'll be (mostly) calm and complacent.

Sigh... I am trying sooooo hard to relax and just enjoy it. I just have purist issues :P
