Halloween Countdown - Things That Are Scary #2

Okay, here it is. The night before Halloween and Viv's biggest fear. For reals. This is what really, really scares me.

Ghosts. Haunted houses. Real ones. TERRIFY me. Like, it's great to watch movies and read stories, but put me in a real life situation with something that even smacks of the supernatural?

AIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I won't be hunting ghosts anytime soon. I stay far far away from Ouija boards (because some weird shit happened to friends who played with them when we were teenagers). If a room has a cold spot, I will not go in. It's all good when it's pretend, but when the line between real and pretend blurs? Fuck no.

I actually kind of like haunted houses, and used to live in an apartment outside Boston that had ghosts (although I sure didn't know that when I rented the place). I had wicker furniture, and you know the sound wicker chairs make when someone sits in them? I would hear that all the time when I was alone in the place.

The house where I have my massage office is haunted by the ghost of a cat. From time to time, we feel it brushing past our ankles looking for attention. It's very friendly!

There's a hotel in Bisbee, Arizona that has a cat ghost. They have a log book in the room where it curls up on the bed with guests...it's an interesting history of people who have come into contact with it!

You would have HATED the house where I lived for a year between undergrad and moving to Colorado. Absolutely HATED it.

I made a deal with my undergraduate friends who accompanied me to my organ practices in the dead of night at Colonial Williamsburg's Bruton Parish Church: I would deal with any ghosts, and they would deal with any physical threats (since several students had reported attempted or actual sexual assault around the campus in the early morning hours). I'm happy to say that we never had to confront either supernatural or RL assailants, but I don't mind volunteering for most ghost-confrontation duties so others don't have to.

(Well, except for pure vengeance ghosts like yuurei. Once you cross one of those, you're doomed no matter what you do or don't do, so I'm not going to go up against one of those under any circumstances.)
