Oh man... I had a to-do list today, but nothing's gotten done. SIGH. I... haven't even eaten anything. Oh dear. That's seriously bad slothtasticness.

Hee hee hee. It wasn't that bad. It helped that I was sitting next to a teenager enamored with Edward (who put up with my occasional "creepy stalker" remarks with good humor).
It was SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE BOOK, OMG. I mean, not having to read that narration of emo, low self esteem makes a huge difference. I kind of liked the understated sparkling, but the other effects were, indeed, goofy.
Here was my biggest surprise. I like vampires. A lot. It is my Thing, and has been from a very early age. I like the struggle with vampires falling for humans. I love the attraction to danger and the sexual undertones of vampirism. I don't mind the escapist, super strong protector trope. It's fun! In the book, Edward is so flat, arrogant, and boring, that I didn't really like him, but I always cut the vampires slack for bad behavior because they are dealing with the whole "monster" thing. When you're a monster, it's a lot harder to be nice, you know? So while I didn't like him, I didn't hate him, either, which I think is almost worse. Who wants a lukewarm anti-hero?
Pattinson's performance sold me on Edward. I like the character now. I can see why he's so popular. Pattinson brought vulnerability, awkwardness, the monster factor, the awesome dichotomy between monster and lover to life. I was seriously really impressed, because, dude, we all know the source material was crap.
The dialogue was so much better because scriptwriters tweaked most of it. Bella was not nearly as much of a jerk as she is in the book; I think the actress and the director worked on that. I loved the actor who played Charlie, and I adored the additional little glimpses into the family dynamic and the Quileutes that we got.
I enjoyed myself, and for Anime Girl, it was everything she wanted and more. So I do not regret the matinée prices spent to go see it.
One of my slothtastic activities today was to watch the latest South Park, which I haven't watched in ages. It was hilarious and it fits with the vampiric theme. You can watch it here. It's called "The Ungroundable" and it's basically Goth Kids vs Vampire Wannabes. Or, as this quote so eloquently puts it, "They aren't Goth kids, they're douchey little vampire kids!"

Okay. I am moving now. To do things. God.
