Hoo boy, was Pirates of the Caribbean a good flick. I truly enjoyed it and not just in a fun summer flick way. It was good! The story was cool, the acting lovely, and the costumes and effect were excellent. And the ships - they were real ships. I've got a thing for the old sailing ships - must've been a sailor in a past life.

Um, and I also have a thing for Johnny Depp. Loved this character, by the way. My favorite of course, good hearted villain. Mmmmm, Johnny Depp sword fighting, Johnny Depp in mascara, Johnny Depp in 18th century clothing. I have loved him in every movie I've ever seen him in. You know the love scene in Benny and Joon - gives me shivers. And then there's Ed Wood where he is just so darn earnest. And Edward Scissorhands - sigh. So Johnny Depp = yummy with a spoon.

I also have a thing for late 18th century fashion. One of my favorite Halloween costumes was when I went as Mozart (a very feminine Mozart, mind you) in college. Somethin' about those tights and jackets. And then the women's fashions: gimme the corset, baby, with the panniers, heaped high wigs, and Watteau drapes. Watching Dangerous Liaisons gives me a fashion-gasm. It's the whole past life thing, I imagine.

We had the best dinner - a pasta and cream sauce with mostly organic ingredients from the Farmer's Market. Portobellos, spinach pasta, a fresh green salad. So delicious. And tomorrow we have homemade pirogis to feast upon. Love pirogis. Actually any kind of dumpling is a favorite of mine.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the evil pop up ads that flash onto the middle of your screen and have addresses which lead you to icky sites instead of the pop up killer sites? They are making me slowly insane. Regular pop ups are blocked but these get through.

Ok, off to watch the History Channel (Saving Our History)

I wish I could help you with the popup thing; good luck!

I will remember this post about PoTC (I'm saving all Pirates posts in my random movies list) but most other people seem to say that it was just fun rather than truly a good movie.

However, everyone agrees with you about Depp in eyeliner, which I find slightly unbelievable. How does it fit into the context of the movie?? (And I did like him with long hair in B&J!)

Totally agreeing with you about fashions. I've never been as serious about costumes as you've been; when I used to drss up as an eighteenth-century person, I'd just wear shorts, stockings, a vest, and a jacket, which is a nice costume anyway. I'm so glad that you were satisfied with the costumes here; bad costumes can so detract from a movie, and in movies with terrific costumes, I often spend more energy ogling the costumes than the people or the situations.

Out of random curiosity, which type of corset do you prefer?

Anyway, I'm glad that you enjoyed PoTC so much, and had a good dinner, and have fun with the History Channel!

Yeah, those pop-ups are truly evil. Here's a new tip that I just got: when the first one pops up, instead of closing it, just drag it waaaaaay down to the corner of your screen, so all you can see is a teensy little bit. The rest of them for that session evidently pop up behind that one, thereby not annoying you. I've only tried this once (very new tip), but it seemed to work. Definitely let me know if you find a more permanent solution, because we hates them! We hates them, precious!

I use Mozilla most of the time and it has a built in popup killer that's awfully good. The Mozilla web site (http://www.mozilla.org/) is here.
