I am a big fat copycat! I am copying [livejournal.com profile] adiva_calendia in reading Eye of the World, the first of the Wheel of Time series. I commented on her running commentary, and [livejournal.com profile] genarti said I should do one as well.

Nynaeve is in Baerlon on her mission to bring back Egwene and the boys.

I LOVE NYNAEVE. SO MUCH!!!! She got across the river by finding where the ferryman was hiding? Bwahahaha... Lan's reaction to being tracked was also priceless.

Moiraine also makes me happy, speaking of the ferry. She's such a Slytherin. She's such a lady, too. I mean, I knew this from Aspen's portrayal but I didn't know it in context. Mistress Alys, indeed.

Rand is a dear. I guess I never thought of him as being a kid once, but he's just a boo right now. The shared nightmare was nicely creepy. I am curious to find out who his birth parents were.

The Children of the Light are scary Inquisitor/crusaders. The scene with Rand standing up to them was interesting to say the least.

Thom intrigues me. I don't know what to think of Min. I really like this world, though.

Even if Aes Sedai get no respect. :-P

Hee! Man. I remember that I loved Nynaeve early on, but later she got fuckall annoying. But then, so did everyone, which is why I quit reading at about book 7.

*ponders rereading the early books*

Oh, man. So, so true.

*vigorous nodding* It's so different to have read these guys waaaay down the road and be reading them now.

Min is intriguing. I hope he does more with her.

God, I remember reading those books for the very first time. I read the first four in three days sitting on a beach. I literally could not put them down.

good times, good times. :)

Man, I'm jealous. I wish I could reread those books for the first time. Nynaeve does indeed rock the casbah. That tracking scene with her and Lan is when I fell in love with them both. Ah, memories...

I'll have to try rereading that book.

I tried it last year and just came away feeling that it was rather tedious and annoying. But probably reading it straight after finishing A Song of Ice and Fire did it no favours.

Judging by your thoughts so far, it sounds like you'd recommend me giving it another go?

Then I'll give it a go. When I've got time for books that huge - Easter, maybe?

Jordan's writing took some getting into, for me. But I like the complexity of his world and his plots, and I like a lot of the characters. So I put up with the bits that annoy me a bit, for the sake of all the good parts.

Your mileage may vary, of course. :)

In that case I'll definitely give them another try. I do remember some very interesting ideas, that's for sure...

The Children of the Light are terrifying. They've also reduced me to angry/horrified wailing on occasion.

*Eyedart*

Good times?

*beams at you lots*

Early Nynaeve-Lan dynamics I adore. On both sides. That's one of my very favorite scenes with them, although I grant you I have a lot of favorite scenes. The subtleties of dynamics there.

And yes! Moiraine is a total Slytherin, in many respects, and utterly gracious the whole time. It's fabulous. The ferry is I think the first time we see it so clearly, although there are certainly indications before.

Rand is such a sweet kid, yeah. He grows up hard and fast over the course of the books, and given that you know Milliways I don't think that's a spoiler, but -- yeah. He really is a dear, and so very confused at that point.

The Children of the Light are jerks, and I would kick them all in the shins if they wouldn't, uh, kill or torture me for it.

I'll be interested to hear how your opinion of Min develops. :) And, really, all your opinions.
