Tony Awards
Jun. 8th, 2003 10:16 pmSince the days when I was a lass wanting my name up in lights, I've loved watching the Tony's. I always have enjoyed the idea of theater, even if I never go see plays anymore (and the ones I do see I tend to be scathingly critical of). The Tony's always have classy dresses, funny actor moments, and way more openness than the other awards shows. My highlights:
-The music writing couple who smooched onstage during their acceptance for Hairspray. You go, boys!
-Vanessa Redgrave and her beautiful gown.
-Eddie Izzard looking all nervous. And Brian Dennehy's acceptance speech praising him.
-Bernadette Peters making the song from Gypsy sound like I was hearing it for the first time.
-The Def Poetry Jam - coolness
-the snippet of Baz Luhrman's La Boheme - I'd love to see that.
If I had more money I'd love to see more shows. Makes me want to trot the boards again. Wistful sigh...
