While I am very pleased with the Democratic gains in both my state and elsewhere, I am very sad that our Referendum I did not pass here. This was a referendum to give civil union couples the right to inherit property, visit ill partner's hospital rooms, etc. Basically all the legal rights and responsibilities, but none of the marriage benefits. Boo.

Maybe next time.

Or with a Democratically controlled state, maybe some laws can be enacted.

It does seem odd to me that people would vote to put a whole bunch of Democrats into office, and then vote for a gay marriage ban and against civil union legal rights. Though maybe having those on the ballot let a lot of people vote for Democrats who otherwise would have felt "morally bound" to vote for Republicans; who knows?

Good to see y'all got the sensible governor candidate. That could have been bad.
