I am now in a nervous spin of pre-event jitters. I am worried I my suitcases will get lost or the box I mailed to the hotel will have been... captured and held ransom my Hotel Elves. I am frantic about forgetting something important and about people not having fun or me not having fun due to other people and AUGH!!!

Today was hellish at work, and I very much wanted to come home and take my half-a-valium from my hoarded stash of two whole tablets and drink some wine. I did neither. I drank water and went to yoga instead.

Packing is done. Except for the little stray bits you put in at last minute. I have a list.

Once I get there, bags intact, I will feel much better. And when I am in DC there are three things I must do. You are all witnesses.

1. I must take the subway somewhere. I have never been on a subway. Ever.

2. I must by a baseball shirt for my wonderful husband who lets me gallivant off across the country. They are the Nationals, I think. I will forget. Someone must help me find a shopping venue. SRSLY.

3. I must go to at least one or two museums, because I am a geek and I really enjoy going to museums.

I know I will have a fabulous time and see wonderful people. I hope there is time for some sightseeing/shopping fun in places like Dupont Circle or somewhere. But those three things must be done.

Okay, I try to go to sleep now. Try being the word, there.

AIEEEE TOMORROW I MEET PEOPLE I'VE KNOWN FOR TWO YEARS AND HAVE NEVER SEEEEEEN. And I get to see friends I've seen once or twice in two years. It is all good.

*spins off in a whirling dervish-y way*

YAAAAAAAAAAY!

Same about the pre-trip jitters. I am SO NERVOUS but at the same time I cannot wait to get there. I am packed except for last minute things and I don't even leave until Thursday morning.

EEE- Cannot wait.

They are, in fact, the Nationals. And you should be able to find a place -- if worse comes to worst, there's a DC sports team store place in the Pentagon City Mall.

I will see you tomorrow night!

(and because I am forgetful and also lazy -- baggage claim, or did you want to call and I'll pick you up in the drive-through area? either's fine.)

Pentagon City Mall is also right on the Metro, a v. short hop from your hotel. Have a nice time. Remember [livejournal.com profile] silveraspen + Teaism (http://www.teaism.com/) = The Good. :-)

Please post restaurant reports/reviews (with food pr0ny details) :-)

I adore subways. I am odd like that. I will ride them for the sake of riding them.

You can come go on a Metro ride for no reason to nowhere with me whenever you like.

3. I must go to at least one or two museums, because I am a geek and I really enjoy going to museums.

I like Air & Space (http://www.nasm.si.edu/) and Natural History (http://www.mnh.si.edu/), but American History (http://americanhistory.si.edu/) is also nice. If I could ask a favour and at least take a pic of the National Museum of the American Indian I would be happy and grateful :-) Oh... I also totally recommend the Hirshhorn (http://hirshhorn.si.edu/), hopefully Big Man will be out, but they have some totally fabulous Rodin's and Degas'.

If you're up Dupont Circle way... Embassy Row (http://www.embassy.org/embassies/) is a nice walk. WrapWorks is not a bad quick meal, but there are a lot of good and great places to eat in several price ranges. If you suddenly win the lottery, Bistro du Coin is great! :-)

The subway, or metro, is very easy to navigate. Just remember to stand on the right of the escalator and walk down the left side.

I also rec the Hirshorn. They have the best couches--very comfy.

You might want to take a look at the newly refurbished American Art museum and National Portrait Gallery.

For Nationals stuff, there is the shop on the third floor of Pentagon City Mall (Metro: yellow or bluelines, stations: pentagon city), or the team has their own shop at RFK stadium (metro: orange line, station: Stadium Armory), or you can get Nationals stuff (I think) at the Verizon Center (Metro: yellow or green lines, Station: Gallery place/China Town).

Welcome to the white city and have fun!

The above is VERY IMPORTANT. Unless you like cranky locals bumping into you.

Oh and you can access the Verizon Center from the red line, too.

You will have such a good time! And so will everyone else! In fact, everyone else would probably still have an exce1lent time even if all your planned events failed miserably. Which they won't. :)

Enjoy!
