May. 23rd, 2004 08:12 pmBliss... the first day in ever so many in which I had nothing that had to be done. Other than laundry or homework, of course, but those chores weren't too heinous. I slept 12 hours last night, so I think I might be caught up after Mrs. Toad's Wild Ride of the past week.
I am rereading The Hobbit for the first time in a very, very long time. It wasn't as enchanting to me as LotR, so it didn't get into the reread every year loop. I am being charmed by Mr. Bilbo Baggins now. I had forgotten just how much he came into his own on his adventure. By LotR I always thought him a bit silly, but now I see I've been in error.
Morrissey's new album, You Are the Quarry, is fab. I am enjoying it very, very much. The Smiths (along with Soft Cell) provided the soundtrack for my teen years, and I've enjoyed his solo albums, but this is a great album. My favorite song is "Come Back to Campden" with the following incredible lines:
Drinking tea with the taste of the Thames/sullenly on a chair on the pavement/Here you'll find/despair and I/and here is the very last plea of my heart/Where taxi drivers never stop talking/under slate grey Victorian sky/and here I am every last inch of me's yours/forevermore
Pretty, huh?
I am finally able to think about fic again - the Dom story is going again - very exciting. I started
marigold's Hobbit challenge, which conveniently turned out to fit a plot bunny I've had for some time, so hurray! And I have a great psalm for
musesfool's Psalm challenge. Some ideas are bubbling up for that too.
The Remix of my story, "Of Padraic and the Serpents" gave me shivers, it was that good. I was honored to have such a great story inspired by my little fic. Go here to read it. My remix was ever so conveniently a Narcissa story. Actually I remixed it from Andromeda's POV, but still. The Fandom Gods smile upon me. Or maybe that should be the Fanfic Cherubim. I got such a nice review today for Strange and Wondrous - the girl said I had made her cry, and no other fanfic had made her do that. Since I also cried when I wrote it, it made my day.
John Cusack was just interviewed at the Cubs game. He's a handsome fella. One benefit to having a Cub/baseball fanatic for a husband - sometimes cool folks come to games and show up on camera. *peers into stands looking for hobbit actors*
One more week of children at school and then they go away! Huzzah! I love them, but after a year, I get weary of them.
