While waiting for threads to develop (type faster peoples; it's almost my bedtime!) I went through my "things to be read" file and found this Riddlefic called "Take Up Serpents" by Rusalka. Oh. My. God. This is the kind of story that I want to be able to write one day. It tells of young adult Tom's search through the Appalachian South to find Absolom Brown, another Parselmouth from whom he hopes to learn. There is snake handling and an incredible religious feel and beautiful language and description. It gave me shivers, and the Tom characterization is perfect. I mean, really perfect. Read it now - you'll like it muchly.
