Even though it's been crappy so far, I hope you have a better "new" year. Poor sweetie, bad birthdays are the worst. *sends you happy unicorn thoughts*

I replied, "Hey, if I want a story, I'll read a book."
But I was then pleasantly surprised by the movie. I thought the story was fine. There were some excellent moments of sadness and drama. The effects were very well done, and overall the movie delivered what it promised: It's a great summer movie. Some of the effects were very intense for me. As the tidal wave was hitting NYC, I was cringing. The destruction hit me more than I expected. I nearly cried at Ian Holm's last scene - he was fabulous. I also really liked Dennis Quaid - he's gotten better with age, I think.
The message was a bit heavy handed at times, and I couldn't help but think how the US would still work to take over whatever third world country "saved" us, but all in all, I enjoyed the movie a lot. Oh, the wolves were a bit much, though. I think the experience was intensified by the truly wonderful Day After Tomorrow fic challenge stories I've been reading. There have been some incredibly good ones.
I am so happy that I have the day off tomorrow. So very happy.
