I really enjoyed the finale! I learned a long, long, long time ago (seriously - when I was around 12 and we were still on the 4th and 5th doctor) that this show - my dear show - does not make a lot of sense plot-wise. You know what? I'm okay with that. The MST3K theme song often flits through my head at times like this. Dr. Who is a childhood show of delight and endless possibilities for me. I'm there for the characters, so wow, I was terribly pleased.
I can't wait to see what else they do with the insane, time-locked Time Lords, since you know that they will be showing up again. Hopefully with the Master wreaking some serious havoc along with "...the Scar of Degradations. The Horde of Travesties. The Nightmare Child. The Could-Have-Been King with his army of meanwhiles and never-weres". Eeee, more please!
I loved the twist with Wilfred being the one who causes the Doctor's death. I loved Wilfred, period. He is one of my favorite companions ever. When he got to see Earth from space for the first time? Oh. Lovely.
At my house, we bet that the Mystery Woman was the Doctor's Mother, but I am loving the theorizing that she might, in fact, be his daughter or granddaughter. Whoever she is, I can hope we will see her again. I want to know who the other person with the covered face was. Someone related to the Master, maybe? We will see the Master again. I only hope we can keep John Simms, who delivered one of the most incredible acting performances (once he got to stop tearing apart food).
Speaking of which, damn you, Tennant, for making me cry. I adored the goodbye ending. That was one of the most satisfying regenerations I've seen. I loved that everyone got a goodbye. I also love that Jack Harkness has found Milliways Bar. *giggles* (And how cute was the Jack and Alonso meeting? SO CUTE. Poor Jack. I hope things are not quite as sucktastic for him.)
I want to watch the Mickey/Martha show. Seriously. I love the idea of Mickey growing up to be kick ass and awesome, especially after watching Series 1 with Nine where he gets the shaft so hard. Poor Tom (the former fiance) - I am sorry he misses out on Martha, but I thought Mickey and Martha had great chemistry even from the little bits they were together in the last series finale. They make a great pair, especially if they are off free-lancing in danger zones. So yes, I want the show. Now, please. Get on that, BBC.
As for Eleven, I am highly optimistic. You never like the new Doctor right off, or at least I never do, because you loved the old one, but I think this one might be fun once the regeneration crazy wears off a bit. I am most interested to see how his youth (because omg, he's so young and I just want to pinch his widdle cheeks) will change how he's perceived. Nine and Ten were old enough to commandeer respect pretty easily from outsiders/strangers, but Eleven? He will have a challenge, I think. So it will be interesting to see how the actor and the writers work with that.
In summation, my expectations were exceeded. That is all kinds of all right.
You might find this link interesting; I certainly did. It's a write up of how all the regenerations happened up to Ten, complete with clips for each one. No spoilers for End of Time aside from a mention of seeing part 1 and wondering where it will compare.
Here is the series preview for Spring 2010 - spoilers a'plenty! Also, eeeeeeeeeee! Looks like fun!
...Oh man. I will need an updated Dr. Who icon now. I also need some recs. Who writes good Who fic? It is such a big fandom that I have only read a very little. I'd be very interested in quality, character-driven gen fic, as well as character-driven Doctor/Master fic. No Rose/Doctor, please. Unless it's Ten 2.0. Then it's fine.
