I am tired, but I don't want to sleep. I am watching a cool documentary and I must stop. Wah!

A challenge! A challenge!

Give me a fic sentence. Just one evocative sentence. Any fandom, any character, any kind of mood, silly or serious. This will cheer me muchly on my Monday.

There was a trick to finding just the right balance of dust for an antiquarian bookshop: too little, and the perfume of ancient parchments and pages wound up smelling like someone had sprayed the room with Old Book Scent; too much, and you risked damaging the texts. (Good Omens inspired.)

There are times when you know exactly what to do.

This isn't one of them.

I give you a minisaga -- fifty words that no longer quite fit into the HP universe, but make me smile:

As they hurried away from the Ministry, through the tunnels under London, Harry’s scar began to throb. Dumbledore saw the look on his face, then turned to his own knees.

"I think," he said, "that we had best take the Northern Line instead. Change at Leicester Square. Mind the gap."

Since then, I've been seeing the past in one eye and the present in another, so I thought I could only see patches of reality, never the whole picture.

There are days he can remember how long it's been since he's seen the sun.

Your choice of fandom.

. . . until one day, he fell victim to a nasty accident involving the wife of a high-ranking member of the mafia, a faulty bungee cord, a small fire, forty-two bullets of six different calibers, an elevator shaft, a complete set of ginsu knives, a freak landslide, an infestation of brown recluse spiders, a garrote, one ripe tomato, a case of food poisoning, a stone wall, enough arsenic to kill a bull elephant, a bull elephant, a speeding dumpster truck, an experimental laser, africanized killer bees, a sledgehammer, punji stakes, punji snakes, a model airplane, a horde of flesh-eating squirrels, carbon monoxide poisoning, a vat of acid, a crowbar, four icepicks, three chainsaws, two screwdrivers (one flathead, one phillips), a length of string, the collected works of Edgar Allen Poe, and a small wooden spoon.
